Koscheck (16-5) fought once in 2011, knocking out Matt Hughes at UFC 135 in September. Pierce (13-4), who has won four of his last five fights, is coming off a split decision win over Paul Bradley last November at UFC on FOX 1.

Round 1: Pierce wastes no time going low for the takedown. Koscheck defends it, but they’re up against the cage where Pierce often likes the action. Pierce works knees to Koscheck’s legs from in tight as they both work for position. Koscheck struggles to circle free, and finally does. Pierce lands an uppercut on the way out. Pierce closes the gap again. This time Koscheck pushes him against the fence, but then pulls free. Pierce with a nice jab, then a hard right hand. Koscheck is hurt but swinging. Pierce with a hard jab. Koscheck fires off a head kick. Pierce gets inside with a hook. Pierce catches a hook and pushes Koscheck against the cage, but can’t complete the takedown. Still, it’s Pierce’s round, 10-9.
Round 2: Pierce is making this just the kind of grinding fight that he excels at. Pierce with a stiff jab. Koscheck’s not letting his hands go, looking like he’s gunning for one big shot. Somewhere along the way, Pierce got bloodied on the right side of his head. It’s a lot of blood but it’s not getting in his eye so should be no issue. Pierce forces a tie-up, and the two exchange punches from in tight.

Dan Stittgen vs. Stephen Thompson
Round 1: Slow pace early. Thompson switching stances frequently and throwing out occasional kicks. Stittgen hasn’t done much in the first two minutes, trying to figure out Thompson. FInally, he bull-rushes forward but Thompson easily side-steps him. Thompson looks very comfortable in the standup, no surprise given his kickboxing pedigree. Stittgen is a deer in headlights. With 45 seconds left, Thompson lands a one-shot headkick knockout. The kick was the back end of a combination, preceded by a right hook, and Stittgen never saw it coming.
Winner: Stephen Thompson via knockout, Rd. 1 (4:13)
Rafael Natal vs. Michael Kuiper
Round 1: Natal takes Kuiper down quickly and into full mount. Kuiper scrambles free quickly, and they’re back to their feet. Kuiper tries to open up with his strikes, but Natal drives forward for another takedown. Kuiper wall walks back to his feet. Natal is determined to keep the fight down, though, and takes him down again. Natal isn’t able to do much with the position. These two are up and down repeatedly. Natal can’t hold him down, but Kuiper can’t stop the takedown, either. Natal tried an arm bar but Kuiper pulled out and ended up on top. Kuiper landed a couple elbows as the round expired. It’s Natal’s round, 10-9.

Georges St. Pierre Relishes Potential Underdog Status In Nick Diaz Bout

The underdog status is an unfamiliar place for UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, but he doesn’t appear to be objecting to it. GSP recently told CSN Washington he believes if Diaz defeats Carlos Condit tonight at UFC 143 and he and the Stockton-native square off, the interim champion will be the favorite.
“Absolutely, I will be the underdog,” said St. Pierre on The Fight Fix. “Everybody will be thinking I’m going to lose this fight. That’s perfect. That’s what I want. It’s perfect motivation for me.”
St. Pierre has been relegated in recent fights to telling audiences each new opponent he faces is miraculously the most dangerous test of his career. That’s typically fight promotion speak. But facing a ready Nick Diaz after an extended layoff from ACL surgery in the prime of his career, St. Pierre may well be right that Diaz will be regarded as the one to beat by oddsmakers as much as fans.
As for the ammunition Diaz’s less than glowing words about St. Pierre provide, the champion didn’t suggest he was taking them too much to heart. “I don’t think Diaz is a bad human being,” St. Pierre noted. “I just believe maybe he has problems with social skills. It’s not personal. He did say personal bad stuff about me, but I just hope we’re going to be able to fight each other. It’s gonna be good.”
The welterweight champion also responded to UFC welterweight contender Josh Koscheck’s hope that GSP never returns to MMA. “It doesn’t go well for Koscheck because my knee is doing better every week,” responded St. Pierre with a smile. “I will come back soon.”
The champion believes he could be back in the Octagon on an accelerated timeline. He’s rehabilitating his damaged knee aggressively and without much distraction. So little distraction, in fact, he is completely unaware of tomorrow’s Super Bowl, who is playing and what the hoopla is all about.
“I don’t know anything about football. I don’t even know who is in the final,” St. Pierre noted. “I hear so much about football and I’ve been rehabbing with a lot of football players and football fans. So, I’ll make sure the Super Bowl is on – because I’m in Vegas and I have to drive back to Los Angeles to continue my rehab – I’ll make sure I be on the road listening to some beautiful music while the game is on so I cannot hear about it.”
Despite being a professional athlete, St. Pierre confesses he’s “not a sports fan at all, either hockey or whatever. I don’t watch sports too much.”
“I’m more a nerd.”

The event is headlined by a interim UFC welterweight championship between former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz and former WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit. This bout is scheduled for five, five-minute rounds.
The co-main event is a heavyweight tilt between ‘Big Country’ Roy Nelson and former Strikeforce heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum. Also on tonight’s card is a welterweight bout between former NCAA Division I national wrestling champion Josh Koscheck and Mike Pierce.
The Facebook card starts at 7:00 p.m. ET and the FX portion of the card begins at 8 p.m. ET. Tonight’s pay-per-view kicks off at 10 p.m. ET. MMA Fighting has compiled a full list of ways you can watch this event no matter your viewing preference. So, let’s breakdown our options based on each portion of the card.
Walkout Shirts: Nick Diaz | Carlos Condit | Roy Nelson
Online
For today’s preliminary card, viewing is separated into two sections. The first two bouts will air for free on the UFC’s Facebook page. That portion of the fight card begins at 7:00 p.m. ET. Simply “Like” the UFC’s Facebook page and you’ll be able to watch those two fights for free. As for the other part of the preliminary card, those fights will air on FX beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
UStream is available for those who enjoy their service. This applies to the main card only. The video streaming service allows users to purchase their pay-per-view via the UStream platform at a cost of $ 44.99. If you’ve used this service before and can speak to the quality of the experience, please leave a comment.
Yahoo! also provides a good online alternative. Go to the dedicated UFC 143 page at Yahoo.com and purchase the pay-per-view. I’ve personally used this service and it’s fantastic.
The option to go to UFC.TV, purchase and view this event there exists as well. The UFC has a dedicated page on how to watch their pay-per-view events. I’ve never personally used that service, but others seem to enjoy it. Last, but certainly not least, for those who own a Roku set-top box you can view the pay-per-view portion of the card for UFC events live.
Mobile
If you’re one of the iPhone or iPad users among us, you may buy the fight by using the UFC app from the iTunes app store. The app costs $ .99 while the pay-per-view is still standard price. UFC also launched an Android app made by Neulion, but the fight price is the same as if you purchased the pay-per-view for television.
On Pay-Per-View/Television
Whether your cable provider is DirecTV, Comcast, Cox or any other major cable company, you should have the ability to order tonight’s fights. If you’re not, please list the name of the company in the comments. A comprehensive list of cable providers who carry these events can be found here.
The price for UFC pay-per-view events is generally constant. However, I’ve been told of fee increases by cable providers. For standard definition, $ 44.99 is what you’ll typically pay. High definition, by contrast, costs $ 54.99. Others who are non-DirecTV customers say the price of UFC HD pay-per-views have risen to $ 60. If this has happened to you, please leave us a note.
Beginning at 9 p.m. ET, FX will air at least four scheduled fights from the preliminary card. As a standard reminder, it is possible the two fights previously streamed on Facebook will air on the FX broadcast.
At A Bar
The UFC provides a comprehensive, searchable database of bars carrying pay-per-view events. It’s organized by physical location. Simply go to bars.ufc.com. From there you can enter your zip code to find supporting bars carrying tonight’s fights that are geographically closest to you. The results will even pull up the bar’s number so you can call to ensure they’re carrying the event as well as inquire about specials or a cover charge.
